Foolproof Loofah by Lee Ann Brown
Norton page 217

"Lo! I fill prol pills
Poof! I rail pro lolls
Fool! I ill for lips
O Pale! I foil frail profs
Fop! I frill pale roils-
So! I proof oil spills

April Fool's!"

This poem is extremely interesting. There does not seem to be a consistent rhyme scheme, although there are definitely rhymes in it. As for the meter it seems to be in iambic pentameter but other than that this poem goes everywhere. This is the complete work and I am not sure what to make of it. I find it extremely interesting because it almost seems that by writing a poem that is this crazy and unusual the author wishes to play an April Fools day joke on all of her reader's, which would account for the spastic vocabulary, lack or rhyme scheme, and strange sentences.

this poem doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but then again thats probably why its an april fools poem. not much of a rhyme scheme, but it seems like its all slant rhymes. it reminds me of something Dr. Seuss would write. what comes to mind for me is "Fox in Socks". i actually read it for the first time a couple of days ago (i work at kohls and thats one of our charity books). for those of you who know, Fox in Socks is one giant tongue twister. when i read it, i wondered how he came up with that, and my reaction was similar when reading this poem.

This poem is interesting. I can't make sense of it. I do like your explination for the oddness that the poem gives off. It is almost like the author was trying to play an April fool's joke on the readers by having the poem be so random and chaotic.

This poem is very interesting, but then again very frustrating. The only sense that I dragged out of it is the repetition of the letters in April Fool's through out the poem. I wonder if the poet almost meant the poem to act as a sort of word scramble. The title is also very complex-including those same letters. Transitioning from "Foolproof" to "April Fool's"-hmm, I'm not sure what the correlation between the title and the concluding statement is other than to further fuel the insanity and chaos in the poem.

I think this poem is quite funny and interesting because it only uses the letters that are in "April Fools". This poem to me is less than remarkable, yet that is probably the exact point of it.
