Auden and the Art

Here's a link to the Brueghel painting that's the subject (in part) of the Auden poem I assigned for Monday. Isn't it awesome?

That is pretty sweet. I haven't looked at the homework yet, but I'm suddenly curious about how one could possibly translate visual art into words. So far, I haven't had an ounce of luck...

for the poem, it seemed like the first 2/3 of it was the impact of the painting on the poet, then the last stanza was describing the poem. actually, it was. if i didn't read the poem (i read it before i looked at the painting) i wouldn't know why it was called "the fall of icarus". the legs are kinda hard to spot and since its not in the foreground...

It's a nice piece of art. I've read this poem before in a literature class and it always get me, with the general to the specific so flawlessly.
